In Grades K – 2, children are laying the foundation for a life that includes lots of reading and writing. We use the Super Kids program, created by Rowland Reading and built on a foundation of solid research into developmentally-appropriate practice and the science of the brain. They learn about letters, sounds, and decoding as they meet the Super Kids, one character for each letter. The children really enjoy meeting these characters, and have a LOT to say about them if you ask. The program includes visuals, songs, books, magazines, workbooks, and journals, and lots of phonics practice. Although they do learn to read the non-decodable words, called “Memory Words,” they do very little of that until they become experienced decoders. This gives them a solid foundation for working with words they haven’t seen before. The program also includes spelling and writing, and helps our little ones go grow into confident readers and writers. You can learn more about that program here.
